IMS JAPAN’s Overseas Transportation

In recent years, with the advance of globalization, many foreign nationals have passed away in Japan.
As a rule, embalming is required when accepting remains from overseas and when transferring remains overseas.
There are many considerations to take into account when transporting a corpse overseas, depending on the laws and customs of the other country, and it can be difficult for a funeral home with little experience.
IMS JAPAN can help you return to many countries.

Embalming important for overseas transportation

  • Embalming is required for the preservation of remains when receiving remains from overseas or transporting them overseas. Embalming is very important when transporting a body overseas, not only for embalming but also for quarantine.
If you wish to send the cremated remains back to Japan after the funeral in Japan, please consult with us as each country has its own rules and regulations.

  • Paperwork required for overseas transportationIn addition to the death certificate and passport, embalming certificates, affidavits of non-use of infectious disease, and other documents required by the regulations of the destination country are necessary for the overseas transportation of the body. Since the documents differ from country to country, we carry out the paperwork in cooperation with embassies, airlines, and local funeral directors.

  • Depending on the country that regulates the transportation (airline or country), it is required to use a casket that conforms to overseas transportation regulations, and cooperation with embassies and other authorities is necessary. In addition, the packaging method must conform to the regulations of the air transport agreement, and the transportation cost may vary depending on the size and weight of the coffin, etc.

  • Depending on the culture and customs of the receiving country and the culture and religion of the destination country, there may be differences in the handling of the remains, and care will be taken to accommodate these differences.
